Below, we dive into some of the most important eBay fees to know about as you start to drive sales.

Type of eBay Seller Fees to Consider

Whether you’re a new or seasoned eBay seller, there are two main types of fees you’ll need to know about.

  • Insertion Fees: These fees are charged each time you create a listing.
  • Final Value Fees: These fees will be charged when your items sell.

These fees apply to eBay auction listings and traditional listings. Let’s take a closer look at each and how they work.

eBay Insertion Fees

Every eBay seller can get up to 250 listings each month without having to pay any insertion fees. But once you’ve used up that 250 listing allowance, you’ll be expected to start paying up.

These fees are:

  • Non-refundable, even if your item doesn’t sell
  • Charged per listing and category
  • Charged each time you relist your item

eBay Final Value Fees

eBay won’t charge you any third-party payment processing fees, but you will have to take care of final value fees when you make a sale. These fees are:

  • Calculated as a percentage of the sale’s total value (shipping, tax, etc.) plus $0.30 per order
  • Potentially refundable if you need to cancel the sale or refund the buyer

Other eBay Fees & Policies

There are dozens of potentially relevant fees that might apply to you, but it all comes down to what you’re selling. Unless you’re managing real estate sales, you probably won’t encounter most of the other fees as an individual seller. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea to check your seller’s account for more information about the fees for your listings.

Some fees sellers get hit with aren’t the result of sales but of breaking eBay’s rules and expectations. Avoid mistakes like these so you can steer clear of unnecessary costs.

  • Buying or selling outside of eBay. If you’re caught offering contact information or trying to accept payment for products outside of eBay, you’ll be charged an extra final value fee.
  • Minimum seller performance standards. Your account must meet eBay’s seller performance standards, or you’ll be charged an additional 6% on your final value fees for the next month.
  • International fees. If you ship your products to other countries, you may have to pay a fee unless you offer official eBay International Shipping.

Once again, this is just a quick look at some of the most important and common fees and policies you’ll encounter. Always do your due diligence to make sure you’re informed about the costs that apply to you. With this knowledge and the best wholesale merchandise, you’re sure to thrive on eBay’s vast online marketplace!
